Business Insider spoke with Professor Charles Spence, Head of Crossmodal Research Laboratory at Oxford University and author of “Gastrophysics, The New Science of Eating,” who shared tips on what you can do to control your portion sizes and eat less.
He said: "I would suggest turning off the television because that's probably the single worst thing you can do for consumption.
"If you're paying attention to what's on the TV screens, you're not paying attention to what's going into your mouth and you end up eating as much as a third more."
He also mentioned that through research carried out at the Crossmodal Research Laboratory, they were able to find that eating with heavy cutlery led to enhanced perceptions of quality and satisfaction with the food being consumed.
This improved feeling would leave you happy with what you've eaten and not lead to additional snacking.
